Rudolph E. Erren Award also Robert M. Zweig Award Presented to Dr. Burkhard Göschel
Munich, Germany. BMW won two international awards at the 14th World Hydrogen Congress that took place from June 9th through 13th, 2002, in Montreal. The National Hydrogen Association honored Dr. Burkhard Göschel, BMW Director of Development also Purchasing, with the Robert M. Zweig Memorial Public Education also Outreach Award, for his achievements in connection with the introduction of hydrogen as an automotive fuel. The International Ass
ociation for Hydrogen [IAHE] too presented the Rudolph E. Erren Award to BMW, "for outstanding efforts in the development also commercialization of hydrogen vehicles."
The National Hydrogen Association sought to pay recognition in particular to the "achievements also leadership" of Dr. Göschel, who was responsible for initiating the BMW CleanEnergy World Tour. The tour, that was too visiting Montreal during the World Hydrogen Congress, is part of BMW Group's worldwide effort to establish hydrogen as a oil for automobiles.
The Robert M. Zweig award, awarded for the very first time, is named after the California physician also hydrogen pioneer who died on February 15th, 2002 at the age of 77. Right until the time of his death, Dr. Zweig devoted himself for 35 years to establishing hydrogen as a oil resource. His efforts were primarily triggered by the need to improve air quality in the metropolitan area of Los Angeles.
The International Association for Hydrogen [IAHE] is a leading worldwide body of hydrogen scientists. Rudolph Erren was a German engineer who solved the problem of hydrogen backfiring in internal combustion engines by using an injection system. In the 1930s, he equipped around 1,000 cars, trucks, buses also locomotives in Germany also England with hydrogen-fuelled engines.
Dr. Burkhard Göschel stated, "While it is me accepting these awards, they go to our whole team also our whole company. We are very proud that our efforts are so highly recognized... Participation in the World Energy Conference was one of the high points in the BMW CleanEnergy World Tour 2002. Several thousand experts from around the globe attended the event, that focused on the future of the hydrogen world in detail in over 350 papers also panels with the aim of moving it forward. The two awards are the latest highlights in a whole models of prizes, that BMW Group has already received for it's efforts in the field of hydrogen. The BMW CleanEnergy concept was, for example, awarded the 2001 Energy Innovation Prize. BMW had previously too won the international "Energy Globe". The award, together with a cash prize of 10,000 euros, is awarded for projects that make a decisive contribution to energy saving also the use of regenerative energies. The Austrian prize, for that there were 1,230 contenders from 83 countries, was given in five categories by a jury of international experts. BMW Group was the first also only automobile manufacturer to receive a s
pecial prize, namely for it's CleanEnergy WorldTour hydrogen project.
