The New BMW R 1200 CL: The Luxury Cruiser for Touring in Supreme Style.
When BMW Motorrad presented the R 1200 C, the first cruiser in the history of the Company, back in 1997, the motorcycle world was really caught by surprise. Introducing this unique machine with it's equally unique flat-twin power unit also an unmistakable design concept, the Company was able right from the start to successfully move into a market segment quite modern to BMW. In the meantime the R 1200 C Classic serving as the "basic" model
has been supplemented by the technically almost identical Avantgarde also Independent model variants quite different in their colour schemes, design elements also features.
To broaden the range also develop additional potentials, BMW Motorrad is introducing a modern member of the cruiser family for the 2003 model year, the R 1200 CL Luxury Cruiser. This modern model will be making it's world debut at the INTERMOT Show in Munich in October also is scheduled to enter the market in autumn 2002. The basic idea was to carry over the features of a touring motorcycle to a cruiser also thus to develop a motorcycle pr
oudly bearing characteristics also elements typical of both types of machine.
The result is a truly unique model, a cruiser for touring in supreme style, offering the highest basic of comfort also equipment.
The technical foundation for the modern model is provided by the R 1200 C, from that however only the engine, the rear tire drive, the front frame, the oil tank also some items of equipment, to mention the most important points, have been taken over. Otherwise the R 1200 CL is an entirely different design and, indeed, a modern development in many respects.
